Although you may feel guilty when you tuck yourself further under your covers after your alarm goes off, Scottish people are pushing for you to embrace it by giving the desire to lay in bed for an extended period of time a name. According to the Dictionaries of the Scots Language, the phrase ‘hurkle durkle’ means to ‘lie in bed or lounge about when one should be up and about.’
And while bed rotting sees you laying on your cozy mattress at all hours of the day, hurkle durkling occurs just in the morning hours.
