Pictou County is under a Rainfall Warning and Special Weather Statement warning of significant rainfall tonight through Saturday night, combined with melting snow and frozen ground that will have a limited ability to absorb that rainfall, so significant runoff is expected. 25 to 50 mm of rain is possible in areas. We’ll see strong winds as well with maximum wind gusts southerly 60 to 80 km/h.
Gasoline prices and diesel prices both decreased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices went down by 2.4 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 162.4 cents per litre locally. Diesel prices dropped by 6.0 cents per litre putting the minimum pump prices for diesel at 194.1 cents per litre in the local area.
New Glasgow Regional Police continue to look for a woman who is the subject of an arrest warrant in connection with the attempted murder investigation of a shooting on Washington Street in New Glasgow last Friday. 48-year old Angela Lynn Taylor, who may be residing in Pictou County, is facing charges that include Attempted Murder; Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Robbery; and several firearms-related offences.
Anyone with information on 48-year old Angela Lynn Taylor’s whereabouts, or any information that may assist investigators, is asked to contact New Glasgow Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
The federal government will make a housing announcement in New Glasgow today. Sean Fraser, the federal Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, and Central Nova MP will make the announcement and be joined by New Glasgow mayor Nancy Dicks; Westville Mayor Lennie White, and Pictou Mayor Jim Ryan.
One of the provincial government’s most outspoken opposition critics has crossed the floor to become a cabinet minister. Premier Tim Houston introduced Liberal member Brendan Maguire as the Progressive Conservative government’s new minister of community services following a cabinet meeting yesterday. Houston made the announcement after saying Trevor Boudreau has left the portfolio for unspecified “personal and health reasons.” Maguire says he’s confident he can be a better advocate for his constituents as part of the government and adds he’s not dissatisfied with the Liberals or party Leader Zach Churchill.
Nova Scotia Health says it is lifting a requirement for employees and on-site medical staff to submit proof of COVID-19 immunization, beginning Monday.
Officials say the change is being made based on “current available evidence.”
Vaccinations were made mandatory for health workers in November
2021 and those who hadn’t received at least one COVID-19 shot risked being placed on unpaid leave.
Nova Scotia Health says the policy change affects about 100 employees, while I-W-K Health says fewer than five of its employees are affected.
