No injuries are reported after an apartment building fire early Monday morning in New Glasgow.
At about 3:20a.m., the New Glasgow, Stellarton, Linacy, Trenton, Plymouth, Abercrombie, and Little Harbour Fire Departments; New Glasgow Regional Police; Emergency Health Services; and Nova Scotia Power all responded to the fire at a four unit apartment building on Brookside Avenue. The building sustained extensive damages and the Red Cross is assisting those tenants displaced by the fire. The investigation is continuing into the cause of the fire.
New Glasgow Regional Police say that a truck that was stolen on Sunday afternoon at a business on Matheson Street in New Glasgow has been located in Bible Hill by Colchester District RCMP. New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information on the stolen truck is asked to contact New Glasgow Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
Nova Scotia Power and Police are warning of a scam that’s surfaced. Nova Scotia Power has received reports from customers receiving a call from the phone number 1-800-336-1402 with demands made by the caller for immediate payment by cash or e-transfer. Officials stress that it is NOT an NS Power phone call and they do not accept payments by cash or e-transfer.
Federal N-D-P Leader Jagmeet Singh is making a brief visit to the Halifax area today.
The New Democratic Party issued a statement saying Singh will hold a news conference early this afternoon to talk about housing issues.
That event will be held at the University of King’s College in Halifax.
Later in the day, Singh is expected to join striking workers on a picket line outside the Autoport in Eastern Passage, site of one of North America’s largest transshipment facilities for imported vehicles.

The biggest night in Canadian music, the Juno Awards, were held last night in Halifax. The industry paid a star-studded tribute to Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee and hip-hop pioneer Maestro Fresh Wes. The “Let Your Backbone Slide” rapper said “we don’t make records, we make history” as he accepted the honour. Calgary natives Tegan and Sara accepted the 2024 Humanitarian Award for their work with the L-G-B-T-Q-Plus community. And Montreal singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin got a big win tonight, scoring album of the year for “99 Nights” while the Beaches took home the group of the year prize. Singer, rapper and songwriter Karan Aujla won the fan choice award.
A sports note, the Amherst Ramblers beat the Pictou County Weeks Crushers 2-1 on Sunday to take a 3-2 lead in their Maritime Junior Hockey League playoff series. Game 6 of their Eastlink South Division semifinal is Tuesday night at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
