Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged three people with drug and weapon offences after executing a search warrant at a home in Three Brooks. During the search last Wednesday, police arrested a man and two women, and then located and seized methamphetamine, hydromorphone, cocaine, psilocybin, prescription medications, a stolen handgun with ammunitions, and cell phones. A 37-year old Stellarton man, 33-year old Pictou woman and 47-year old Three Brooks woman are facing numerous charges.
RCMP have charged a man with firearms offences following a report of a man with a gun in Bible Hill on Friday. Shortly before 8:30am, several police agencies and units responded to a call about a man carrying a firearm on Hillcrest Ave. in Bible Hill. Schools in the area were put on lockdown and the RCMP issued an alert via Alert Ready to Colchester, Cumberland and Pictou Counties, and East Hants. At about 9:10am, Truro Police arrested a 38-year-old Bible Hill man without incident on Main Street in Bible Hill. He was turned over to the RCMP and has been charged with Uttering Threats; Using a Firearm in Commission of Offence; Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose; Mischief; Careless Use of Firearm; and Intimidation.
Police have arrested two suspects in the death of a young man who was found injured Monday in a Halifax mall parking lot. Halifax Regional Police say the death is being investigated as a homicide. Officers initially responded to a report of an injured person in the parking lot of the Halifax Shopping Centre late yesterday afternoon. He later died of his injuries in hospital. Two suspects were arrested on a Halifax Transit bus just before 5:30pm.
Elections Nova Scotia says voters in Pictou West can cast their ballots before the May 21st byelection at the returning office, advance poll and remotely by write-in ballot. In-person e-Balloting will be used following the close of candidate nominations at 2 p-m on May 1st. The e-Balloting system allows voters to select the candidate of their choice on a secure tablet and allows fast and secure counting of early votes when the polls close on election night. Premier Tim Houston called the byelection Sunday to replace Karla MacFarlane – the first female Speaker of the legislature – who announced she was leaving politics on April 5th.
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston has appointed Barbara Adams as the province’s new Justice Minister and Attorney General. This comes after Brad Johns resigned from the post following comments he made last week that downplayed domestic violence. Adams will retain her portfolio as Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care as she takes on the new role.
