A new report on flooding last year in Nova Scotia that killed four people says the municipality of West Hants faced several challenges in transmitting timely emergency alerts to the public. The after-action review says that on July 22nd last year, local fire departments started receiving emergency calls at 12:25 a-m, reporting many people had been stranded by floodwaters. Severe thunderstorms dumped up to 258 millimetres of rain on the area. It says the Deputy chief of the Brooklyn Fire Department requested R-C-M-P to issue an alert, and the fire chief texted the West Hants emergency management co-ordinator to request help, but it was almost two hours before the alert was sent out.
The Town of New Glasgow is advising that work is being conducted on Abercrombie Road: from Willow Avenue to Dalcrombie Drive, & detouring from Willow Avenue to Maple Drive through to Thursday. Detour signs are in place and traffic control crews will be set up with stop-and-go traffic. You’re asked to drive with caution and you may encounter some delays.
Frito Lay Canada is recalling Sunchips Harvest Cheddar Flavoured Multigrain Snacks and Munchies Original Snack Mix because the seasoning might be contaminated with salmonella.
Frito Lay says it hasn’t found any salmonella, but is recalling the products out of an abundance of caution.
