Yesterday, Pictou West participated in their byelection, and elected progressive conservative candidate Marco MacLeod to be Pictou West’s new MLA.
The byelection was called after former Progressive Conservative MLA and speaker of the house, Karla MacFarlane, announced her retirement from Politics last month.
Pictou County District RCMP is investigating multiple reports of theft from construction sites that have occurred over the last couple of days near Greenhill and Lyons Brook.
These incidents involve the theft of tools, equipment, and materials from homes under construction and trailers left on site.
Pictou County District RCMP would like to remind contractors to remain vigilant in keeping their equipment safe and secure when leaving a job site. Security measures include surveillance cameras and barricades where appropriate. Community members are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity to police immediately.

The RCMP Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has arrested a Masstown man for child pornography offences.
On Monday, the RCMP ICE Unit, assisted by Colchester County District RCMP and RCMP Digital Forensic Services, executed a search warrant at a home in Masstown.
Investigators were directed to the residence after Lincoln City Police in Oregon, U.S. advised that a person was communicating with someone believed to be a child online in a sexual manner.
As a result of the search and subsequent investigation, Wayne Missons, 25, has been charged with:
- Luring a Child
- Possession of Child Pornography
- Transmitting Child Pornography
- Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child
- Inciting Bestiality
Missons was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on July 10, 2024.
With the summer season approaching and the expected increase in road travel that it brings, Nova Scotia RCMP Traffic Services is emphasizing the critical importance of properly securing children in vehicles. Last week, one check stop conducted in the province focused on safety for the youngest of passengers and it resulted in all vehicles inspected requiring some form of adjustment — from improper use of restraints to missing car seats. Over the next few weeks, Nova Scotia RCMP Traffic Services will be increasing check stops with a particular focus on enforcing car seat safety regulations.
