Heat Warning safety tips from New Glasgow Regional Police. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Move to a cooler environment immediately, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space. Heat stroke is a medical emergency –! Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately if you or someone you are caring for has a high body temperature and is either confused, has stopped sweating or becomes unconscious.
Also, a reminder from the RCMP to keep your pets safe.
Your vehicle – even with the windows down – can quickly reach a temperature that puts your pet at risk of serious illness or death.
When the weather is warm, it’s best to leave your four-legged friend at home. If you can’t, use the drive-through, curbside pickup, or visit pet-friendly businesses to avoid a potentially tragic outcome.
If you encounter an animal in a vehicle that appears to be in distress, call 911 and stay with the animal until officers arrive.
