A Heat Warning has been issued for all of Nova Scotia for today and Tuesday, and possibly into Wednesday for some areas. Very warm, humid weather is expected with maximum temperatures of 30 degrees celsius forecast for both days, but feeling more like 38 with the humidity at times. A reminder that in these conditions, you should never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
New Glasgow Regional Police are looking for the public’s assistance to identify persons of interest and a vehicle of interest in regards to a theft from a vehicle. The theft happened on June 15, at approximately 8:40 pm in the Walmart Parking lot on Westville Road in New Glasgow, and two stackable Milwaukee power tools were stolen from the rear of the pickup truck. Police have released pictures of the vehicle and persons of interest, and are asking those people to call police. They also want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and who may have photos or videos or dash cam footage.
R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia have arrested a 34-year-old man in relation to a firearms investigation in Sipekne’katik. Police say the arrest was made Friday after a search warrant at a home that was executed as part of a firearms investigation involving the East Hants, Colchester County, Cumberland County and Sipekne’katik R-C-M-P departments. Officers seized seven firearms — including two prohibited firearms — as well as magazines, ammunition, contraband tobacco and edible psilocybin, known as magic mushrooms. The 34-year-old who has not been named by police has been released from custody pending a future court appearance.
The federal government says it is spending 124-thousand dollars to commemorate the Number 2 Construction Battalion Remembrance Ceremony in Nova Scotia. A news release from Veterans Affairs Canada says the funding supports projects such as a new memorial, exhibits, community events and research projects to honour the memory and legacy of No. 2 Construction Battalion. The Number 2 Construction Battalion, also known as the Black Battalion, was created on July 5th in 1916, during the First World War.
At Glasgow Square in New Glasgow on Sunday, People First Pictou County hosted a Disability Pride Parade from 1:00PM – 4:00PM. There were a number of guest speakers and family events during the event — part of an international movement for those labelled with disabilities.
