Opposition parties in Nova Scotia are saying the newly announced Nova Scotia Loyal program is not enough to help those struggling with food insecurity put food on the table.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says safety concerns kept him from this year’s Halifax Pride parade. Houston released an emailed statement saying he was advised by the R-C-M-P not to take part “out of an abundance of caution,” but no further details were provided about the alleged risk. Houston says the decision to skip the event doesn’t diminish his support for the L-G-B-T-Q-Plus community. Nova Scotia’s Liberal, N-D-P and Green parties each had a parade float this year, leaving the Conservatives as the only major political party not represented at the event.
