Gasoline prices and diesel prices both went down overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices decreased by 2.4 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 169.9 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices decreased by 4.6 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 167.9 cents per litre locally.
Non-profit and community housing groups in Nova Scotia will soon have access to grants to support purchasing and preserving existing affordable rentals. The fund will provide a one-time capital grant to assist community housing providers purchase existing multi-unit buildings. The province says the program includes a 3.5-million dollar investment.
The Nova Scotia Supreme Court has approved Postmedia’s $1-million bid to acquire Atlantic Canada’s largest newspaper chain. A Judge ruled Thursday that the proposal is “reasonable and fair,” clearing the way for the Toronto-based media company to buy the insolvent SaltWire Network and The Halifax Herald. Earlier, a lawyer representing the court-appointed monitor overseeing insolvency proceedings said the main union that represents workers at the two media companies had agreed to certain conditions demanded last week by Postmedia. SaltWire and The Herald publish newspapers and online content in Nova Scotia, P-E-I and Newfoundland and Labrador – including The News in New Glasgow.
Healthy Pictou County, a physician-led grassroots organization, has announced a new initiative aimed at helping connect newcomers and the community in Pictou County. It’s called ‘New to the Crew.’ Healthy Pictou County is partnering with a number of organizations to promote and support the initiative, including municipalities, Ignite, the Pictou County Partnership, and the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library. New to the Crew will introduce those individuals new to Pictou County to each other and to local residents through monthly gatherings.
