The federal government has announced that 56 additional properties will be added to it’s land bank of locations suitable for affordable housing.
Housing Minister Sean Fraser made the announcement yesterday in Halifax, where the Trudeau cabinet is holding a three day retreat.
The locations are considered surplus and include former military bases, Canada post sites and federal office buildings.
Freight trains are expected to being rolling again this morning, after the federal labour board over the weekend ordered thousands of rail employees back to work.
The decision imposes binding arbitration on the parties following a historic dual work stoppage by CN and the Pacific Kansas City that stopped rail shipments.
The Teamsters union, which represents rail workers, says it plans to appeal the ruling in court.
A woman has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing early Saturday in Truro.
According to a news release, Truro Police Service responded at 3 a.m. to a report that a woman had been stabbed in the downtown area.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 22-year-old woman was arrested and remains in custody pending a court appearance on Monday.
Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, and MP for Central Nova, announced an investment of over $748,000 in the Pictou County Wellness Centre, Summer Street Industries Society, and the Municipality of the County of Pictou through the Hurricane Fiona Recovery Fund.
This funding will help the organizations upgrade 30 climate comfort centres across Pictou County, offering residents a place to shelter, charge devices, and use the internet.
Thirty facilities in Pictou County will see improvements to emergency safety, providing a space where people can feel safe, supported, and connected during weather events and helping the community recover faster during any future extreme weather events that cause mass power outages.
