At around 11am yesterday RCMP responded to a collision on the Pictou Causeway section of highway 106. The Causeway was closed in both directions but has reopened.
The Nova Scotia government is warning of a possible health-care strike as early as Thursday if ongoing bargaining discussions do not result in a deal.
According to an open letter from Minister of Health and Wellness Michelle Thompson to the Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK Health Centre, the province is engaged in negotiations with the Council of Health Care Unions – led by the NSGEU
The NSGEU represents 9,000 members from CUPE, Unifor and NSGEU. The last day of scheduled bargaining is Thursday.
The teamsters union representing CN Rail and Canadian Pacific Kansas City was protesting outside of Prime Minister Trudeau’s Hotel in Halifax over the federal government’s decision to request binding arbitration forcing the rail companies and their employees back to work.
Teamsters argue the move undermined their labour dispute and stripped union members of their power and collective bargaining rights.
Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon said the arbitration process was needed to protect the economy and Canada’s reputation as a reliable trading partner.
The nomination period for the Municipal Election for the six municipalities in Pictou County begins tomorrow.
The nomination period starts Thursday, Aug. 29, and runs until Tuesday, Sept. 10th.
Municipal Elections in Nova Scotia will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19.
