A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Pictou County by Environment Canada as significant rain is expected from Saturday morning through Saturday night. Total rainfall of 30 to 50 mm is expected, with even higher amounts possible in some areas. Environment Canada says an area of low pressure containing tropical moisture will bring the significant rainfall to the province. In addition to the rain, gusty winds Saturday of 50kh could lead to scattered power outages.
Gasoline and diesel prices both decreased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices decreased by 4.9 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 157.0 cents per litre locally. Diesel prices decreased by 2.6 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 160.9 cents per litre in the local area.
The Mounties are investigating two suspicious deaths that occurred in Windsor. Police say they responded to a request to check on the well-being of two people at a home in Windsor on Tuesday at 7:15 p-m. Responding officers found the two men, aged 73 and 40, dead at the home. The R-C-M-P said both men were from Windsor and were known to each other.
Nova Scotia’s Black community will get an apology this weekend from the R-C-M-P for the historic use of street checks. The commander of the R-C-M-P in the province, Dennis Daley, will apologize to African Nova Scotians and all people of African descent during an event in North Preston. The practice of randomly stopping citizens to record their personal information and store it electronically is now banned in Nova Scotia. A provincially commissioned study released in 2019 condemned the practice because it targeted young Black men and created a “disproportionate and negative” impact on African Nova Scotian communities.
Plans for Nova Scotia Music Week have been announced.
Music Nova Scotia says the annual conference will be held between November 7th and 10th in Wolfville.
The group says it’s inviting attendees to take stock of where their careers are now and learn how to plan for a future of growth.
Music Nova Scotia says the event will focus on its international delegate program that will draw people from the United Kingdom and the United States.
