The provincial government says it could be months before it reveals how many people are on the wait-list for a family doctor. Karen Oldfield says the validating process will take months. The last time the wait-list was publicly updated was June 1st, when 160-thousand-200 people were on the list.
The Nova Scotia legislature has passed a bill declaring domestic violence an epidemic in the province, following an extraordinary reversal by Premier Tim Houston. The lightning-fast passage of the bill introduced Thursday by the opposition N-D-P came less than an hour after the premier told reporters he didn’t think the legislation was necessary. The bill’s passage also followed a tense conversation with four women from the private sector union Unifor who were advocating for the bill — and who had cornered Houston near a hallway elevator outside the legislative chamber. N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender says the idea was to legislate a recommendation to all levels of government from the commission of inquiry that investigated the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shooting.
A sports note, the Pictou County Weeks Crushers open their Maritime Junior Hockey League regular season tonight on the road in Yarmouth as they take on the Mariners.
