Pictou County District RCMP are investigating a fatal crash in Thorburn.
On Saturday at about 6:30 a.m., RCMP, fire and EHS all responded to a report of a collision on Sherbrooke Rd. Police arrived to find that a car was travelling on Sherbrooke Rd. when it left the roadway and went into the ditch.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Blue Mountain man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
A Frankville man is facing attempted murder charges after a woman was shot in a home in Pictou County. R-C-M-P say they responded to the incident on Havre Boucher Road in Frankville on Thursday. A 28-year old man has been charged with attempted murder, uttering threats and weapons charges. Police say preliminary investigation indicates there were several adults and children at the home at the time of the incident. No one else was physically injured. Police say the suspect and the victim do know each other, and that this was an isolated incident and not a random act.
Families across Nova Scotia will soon be able to order school lunches, as the Nova Scotia School Lunch Program will serve its first lunches next month. Phase 1 of the school lunch program includes every school that has elementary school grades. It is a pay-what-you-can program, meaning families can choose to pay the full $6.50 cost of the lunch, part of the cost or nothing. All payment information is kept confidential. Lunches will start in schools on October 1, 15 or 28, with ordering opening two weeks before the first lunches are served. There are 46 Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education schools in phase one of the school lunch program.
Nova Scotia has announced the province will be adopting the 2020 National Building Codes in April, next year.
The move marks what the minister of municipal affairs and housing has called a new era in building construction.
The implementation will be phased in over four years.
The National Code system functions in tiers, a method that works to increase energy efficiency standards and move the construction industry toward net-zero emissions.
