Northumberland Ferries says that until at least through Thursday, there will be no ferry service between Wood Islands and Caribou. Initially, the ferry company announced that there would be no sailings Tuesday due to technical issues, but now that’s been extended through Thursday. It’s due to issues with two of the four main engines on the MV Saaremaa 1. The MV Saaremaa 1 had been the only vessel in service since the collision earlier this month that left the MV Confederation damaged. Northumberland Ferries says it is working to restore service as soon as possible.

M-Ps are set to vote this afternoon on the Conservatives’ confidence motion to defeat the government and trigger an election.
Both the N-D-P and the Bloc Quebecois indicated last week they wouldn’t support the motion because they don’t support the Conservatives.
The Bloc Quebecois has said it would instead use the opportunity to negotiate with the Liberals rather than trigger an election.
This summer was the costliest on record for insured losses linked to severe weather in Canada. The Insurance Bureau of Canada estimates the damages for a group of storms and wildfires this summer in Alberta, southern Ontario and Quebec at a combined seven-billion-dollars in insured losses. That tops the 6.2-billion in losses from a massive wildfire in Fort McMurray, Alberta in 2016. It’s also 10 times higher than the average 701-million-dollars a year for severe weather losses between 2001 and 2010.
