New Glasgow Regional Police are advising the public that police have received several reports of a black bear in the Temperance- North Provost Street area. Bears can travel several distances.
Police are continuing patrols of the area and at last word, had not located the bear. Department of Natural Resources have been contacted.

Gasoline prices went down by 9-tenths of a cent per litre overnight in Nova Scotia, while diesel prices rose slightly by 7-tenths of a cent. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 151.4 cents per litre in the local area. The minimum pump price for diesel is 160.9 cents per litre locally.
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says he’s willing to meet with the province’s wine industry to try to resolve an impasse over proposed financial help
Houston made the comment following cabinet yesterday after being asked about last week’s rejection by farm wineries of a government proposal that would have provided them with an extra 1.6 million dollars in support.
The wineries walked away from the offer calling it unfair because it also included help for commercial bottlers who already import cheap grape juice to make wine that is less expensive than locally produced wines.
The Board chair of Wine Growers Nova Scotia says wineries would like to set up a meeting as soon as possible because the issue is far too important to put off.
Federal fisheries officers are refusing duties because of violence on the water in Nova Scotia. The union representing the officers says they’re waiting for Ottawa’s response to their complaints about being shot at, stolen firearms and threats over trying to stop illegal fishing. The president of the Union of Health and Environment Workers says a federal labour investigator is reviewing documents from both the Fisheries Department and officers who have refused some enforcement duties.
Fertility rates in Atlantic Canada were among the lowest in the country last year. New data from Statistics Canada shows Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and P-E-I had the third, fourth and fifth lowest fertility rates among the provinces and territories in 2023. New Brunswick had the seventh lowest rate at an average of 1.24 children per woman, just slightly lower than the national average of 1.26 children per woman. Overall, Canada’s birth rate hit a record low in 2023, joining the group of “lowest-low” fertility countries, including South Korea, Spain, Italy and Japan.
