New Glasgow Regional Police have officially opened their Community Police Office and introduced their Community Response Officer. Officials say the position is designed to focus on crime reduction through relationship building and community engagement. The Community Response Officer will operate out of the new Community Police Office located at 90 Provost Street in New Glasgow. Cst. Ryan Thibeau will be the first officer to take on the role. Cst. Thibeau joined New Glasgow Regional Police in August and brings over 20 years of public service experience.
Pictou County District RCMP are looking to identify two suspects in regards to a break and enter in River John.
On September 24, at approximately 5:15 a.m., two people entered a barn and storage unit on School St. in River John and took a number of items, including copper wire and tools. The two then left the area in a grey-brown coloured Honda Pilot that was waiting nearby. The vehicle has since been recovered.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Pictou County District RCMP or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
Nova Scotia is getting four new helicopters to fight wildfires. The province announced a 25-million-dollar deal with aerospace giant Airbus which was signed off last winter. The new aircraft will replace the four helicopters the province uses as water bombers with money from a trade-in sale being used to bring down the purchase price. A spokesman for the natural resources department says the new helicopters will have upgraded safety features and gives the department added versatility.
New Glasgow will be celebrating its 150th anniversary in May 2025. The Town is looking to residents for help in making it a special celebration. Residents can join the New Glasgow 150 Organizing Committee to share their ideas and experiences in helping plan the celebration.
