Federal cabinet ministers are voicing support for the prime minister as he faces a new and potentially larger threat to his leadership. Immigration Minister Marc Miller is also Justin Trudeau’s personal friend and referred to the efforts to oust Trudeau as “garbage.” Other ministers suggested a healthy debate within the caucus was the best way to pull the team together. An unknown number of Liberal M-Ps have signed a letter to convince Trudeau to step aside before the next election and plan to confront him at the caucus meeting today.
A new report suggests that Nova Scotia’s digital health networks are lacking when it comes to effective cybersecurity. The provincial auditor general, Kim Adair, says that leaves the systems vulnerable to various risks. Adair adds that there is a lack of accountability and a disconnect between the three government entities that oversee the system. The report recommends the creation of an information technology governance framework to manage the digital health system, the completion of all outstanding cybersecurity assessments and regular mandatory cyber awareness training for all health network users.
A member of Nova Scotia’s Opposition Liberals, Fred Tilley, is crossing the floor to join the governing Progressive Conservatives. Tilley represents the Cape Breton riding of Northside-Westmount and was first elected to the legislature in 2021. He’d been critical of the Nova Scotia government about health care and economic development during his time as a Liberal. He’s the second member of the Liberal caucus to join the Tories this year, after Brendan Maguire in February.
The Pictou County Partnership has announced the inaugural Social Enterprise Summit. It’s an event designed to help community impact organizations diversify their revenue streams through social enterprises. The summit kicks off on the night of October 28. Social Enterprises are businesses that pursue a social, cultural or environmental mission and re-invest profits towards that mission. The Summit will feature workshops, expert panels, and guest speakers from across the globe.
