Gasoline and diesel prices both decreased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices decreased by 1.8 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 157.0 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices decreased by 1.6 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 168.6 cents per litre locally.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has presented a clear response to the calls from his M-Ps to resign — he is not going anywhere. About two dozen M-Ps backed the letter given to Trudeau that highlighted concerns with Trudeau’s low popularity with Canadians. After the meeting, Trudeau promised to reflect on what the M-Ps said, but still remains defiant about quitting.
The Nova Scotia government is establishing a new level of bureaucracy to oversee the province’s health-care system. Health Minister Michelle Thompson issued a statement Thursday saying the new Health System Performance and Accountability Council will — quote — “improve health outcomes.” She says the council will monitor the performance of the health system and recommend changes to her. The council will have between three and nine members appointed by the minister.
The R-C-M-P in Nova Scotia say they charged 75 drivers with high-speed stunting between June and September — a big increase from the same period last year. Among those charged, the Mounties pointed to several particularly dangerous cases. A driver in Weymouth was charged after being clocked driving at 109 kilometres per hour in a 30-kilometres-per-hour school zone. Another driver was charged with driving 144 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone in Joggins — and a third driver was caught speeding at 204 kilometres per hour in 110-zone on Highway 104 in Westchester.
