Nova Scotians are set to head to polls late next month after Premier Tim Houston called a snap election on Sunday. The vote will come on November 26th, well ahead of Nova Scotia’s fixed election date of July 15th, 2025. Houston and his Progressive Conservatives are looking for a second-straight mandate after sweeping the Liberals from power in 2021.
Houston has fired the opening salvos of the election campaign, saying he needs a strong mandate in order to help the province “stand up” to the federal government. Houston also says he wants a new mandate because of plans for significant spending to deal with the province’s housing shortage and high cost of living. But Liberal Leader Zach Churchill and N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender say the early election call is unnecessary and they will highlight issues such as health care, a lack of affordable housing and the high cost of living as they talk with voters.

Nova Scotia’s Accessibility Advisory Board has come out with a set of recommended standards for employment. A committee formed by the board includes people with disabilities and other experts in the field, and the recommendations are aimed at reducing employment barriers faced by people with disabilities. The board is recommending that employers ensure recruitment efforts include people with disabilities. It’s also recommending emergency procedures at workplaces take into account the needs of people with disabilities. In addition, they’re calling for “reasonable workplace accommodations” so that everyone has what they need to do their job.
