Gasoline and diesel prices both increased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices increased by 1.4 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 157.5 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices rose by 5.8 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 174.4 cents per litre locally.
On Wednesday night, councillors for the Municipality of Pictou County were sworn in. Robert Parker was re-elected as Warden and Wayne Murray was re-elected as Deputy Warden.
On the Nova Scotia election campaign trail on Thursday, Liberal Leader Zach Churchill said that immigration levels must be reduced until the province can provide enough housing and other services. Churchill says Nova Scotia should focus on attracting more professionals and skilled workers, such as those working in health care, education and the trades. Meanwhile, Tim Houston’s Tories who are seeking a second term in office promised a Progressive Conservative government would make parking free at all Nova Scotia hospitals and health-care centres. Election day is November 26th.
Remembrance Day is on Monday. In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, Town Hall in New Glasgow will be lit up to honour and remember the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our freedom.
There are a number of Remembrance Day ceremonies planned in our area on Monday, including:
New Glasgow – Royal Canadian Legion Branch #34 will hold a Cenotaph Service at Carmichael Park.
Stellarton – Service at the Cenotaph begins at 11am and then back to the Legion for a light lunch.
Trenton – Service begins at 10:45am at the Cenotaph
Westville – starting at 11am at the Westville Cenotaph
Pictou – Church Street Cenotaph starting at 10:50am
Sunnybrae – Service at the Sunnybrae Veterans Memorial at 2pm
Eureka – Starts at 11am at the Cenotaph on Trafalgar Rd.
Glencoe – Glencoe Cenotaph starting at 2:30pm with reception to follow at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church
Hopewell- 10:45am at First Presbyterian Church
Pictou Landing First Nation – You’re asked to gather at the church parking lot at 10:15am and then those gathered will make their way to the graveyard for the ceremony. Light meal and refreshments will follow.
