An update from the RCMP on the investigation into the discovery November 9th of human remains in an abandoned burned vehicle on MacLean Rd. in Greenhill. The RCMP says that the remains have been identified and the deaths are being investigated as homicides. Police say the remains have now been identified as those of 32-year old Kelly Trask of Truro, and 34-year old Tyler Meagher of Grand Prairie, Alberta. On November 14, Colchester District RCMP had begun investigating a report that Kelly (Keleana) Trask was missing from Truro. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance were considered suspicious. Pictou County District RCMP is assisting Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit in the investigation, which is ongoing.

A Nova Scotia R-C-M-P officer who was charged earlier this year with three counts of sexual assault is now facing two more sex-related charges. The R-C-M-P in Cumberland County issued a statement saying that in July they received a report of an alleged sexual assault in the summer of 2019 in the community of Northport. Constable William McNutt — who joined the Mounties in 2021 — was suspended from his duties in January after the Mounties reported he was facing allegations of sexual misconduct in connection with events in 2023. McNutt was arrested by West Hants RCMP last week and is scheduled to appear in Amherst provincial court on January 6th.
A national study says Nova Scotia has dropped in the rankings of energy efficiency. The 2024 “Canadian Energy Efficiency Scorecard” by Efficiency Canada found that Nova Scotia has tumbled from second place in energy efficiency to fifth. B-C remains first, with P-E-I and Quebec tied for second and New Brunswick in fourth. The rankings are based on programs and policies that aim to conserve energy in households, cars and buildings and that reduce the use of oil and natural gas.
The province is joining with law enforcement to make Nova Scotia roads safer for travelers this holiday season. Law enforcement agencies across the province teamed up on Wednesday in New Glasgow to launch Operation Christmas. The annual campaign is aimed at reducing impaired driving and encouraging motorists to practice safe winter driving. There will be an increased number of checkpoints in our area and across the province throughout the holiday season.
