Colchester County District RCMP has charged a 61-year old River John man with firearms offences after a firearm was discharged inside a home in Economy on Christmas Day.
Officers responded to the home and learned there was an altercation between a man and woman, who know each other, inside the home. Immediately after the altercation, police say the man discharged a firearm. There were no injuries as a result of the shot fired.
Police seized two firearms, and as the man was being arrested, he tried to strike one of the responding officers multiple times. He has been charged with Careless Use of Firearm, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Resist Arrest, and Failure to Comply with Order.
The Atlantic Liberal caucus says the party needs new leadership in a letter calling for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down.
Atlantic caucus chair and Nova Scotia M-P Kody Blois penned the letter on December 23rd, saying it’s no longer “tenable” for Trudeau to continue to lead the party.
The letter thanks Trudeau for his nine years of service as prime minister, saying he leaves a “positive and consequential legacy.”
It was shared publicly on Facebook on Sunday by New Brunswick M-P Wayne Long, who has been calling for Trudeau to step down since the fall.
An investigation is underway into a rough landing by an Air Canada Express flight that happened Saturday night at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. An Air Canada spokesperson said a “suspected landing gear issue” left the plane unable to reach the terminal upon arrival from St. John’s. Passengers and crew were safely off-loaded by bus and while earlier reports suggested there were some minor injuries, R-C-M-P confirmed on Sunday no one was injured.
A state funeral will be held for former U-S President Jimmy Carter, who died Sunday at the age of 100.
President Joe Biden has tapped January 9th for Carter’s funeral, which will also be a National Day of Mourning.
Biden says the world lost an “extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian” and he lost a dear friend.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement he recalls his father, the late former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau speaking highly of Carter as a man of deep faith, strong morals and firm principles.
