Some Nova Scotia parents say they were forced to leave the workforce due to a lack of child care spaces. Katie Reynolds, who lives in Wolfville, registered for daycare for her child when she was seven months pregnant and it was not enough time to secure a spot that aligned with her working hours. Reynolds says she was forced to become a stay-at-home mom in 2022 because of a lack of child care options. Statistics Canada data from 2023 says that for about five per cent of children up to age five, their parents were not using child care and had to delay their return to work due to difficulties finding it.

In response to feedback from both clinicians and citizens, Nova Scotia Health is also implementing several improvements.
The text message appointment reminder service will remain paused until Nova Scotia Health is confident the changes are implemented.
