Gasoline prices and diesel prices both decreased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices decreased by 2.2 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 164.3 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices went down by 4.5 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 192.6 cents per litre locally.

U-S President Donald Trump gave no indication he’s backing down from threatened tariffs on Canada and Mexico, set to arrive this weekend.
On Thursday Trump said the levy is about his concerns over drugs and migrants at the border, but added it’s also about how fairly the countries have traded with the U-S over the years.
A decision on whether oil exports headed to the U-S from the countries will face tariffs is expected soon from the White House.
The president said he’ll make a call depending on “what the price is” of the commodity.
Nova Scotia’s Opposition New Democrats are calling on Premier Tim Houston to prepare the province for possible U-S tariffs on Canadian imports. N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender is calling for the creation of a task force that would include key stakeholders from labour unions, Indigenous organizations and industry. Chender says the Trump tariffs could have a devastating impact on Nova Scotian businesses and workers.
The federal Liberal leadership race shrunk Thursday as Nova Scotia M-P Jaime Battiste dropped out. The Sydney-Victoria representative says the best way to advance the issues he cares about is to support former Bank of Canada head Mark Carney. Those issues include reconciliation, protecting the environment and making Canada affordable by addressing the wealth gap. Battiste was the only Indigenous candidate in the running and sought to put First Nations issues on the agenda during the contest.
Pictou County has been selected to participate in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s new Rural Community Immigration Pilot. The pilot has been developed for economic development organizations to support rural workforce growth and will be delivered by the Pictou County Partnership. Pictou County is one of 18 communities across Canada chosen to deliver the initiative – and the only community in Atlantic Canada.
Wade Tibbo, CEO of the Pictou County Partnership, says the pilot will allow them to help local employers fill critical roles and provide newcomers with a permanent pathway to stay, thrive, and contribute to the success of the community.
Pictou County District RCMP are investigating the theft of a UTV from a property in Rocklin. It was stolen sometime between January 22nd and January 24th.
The UTV is a black with red 2019 Polaris RZR RS1. It is equipped with adaptive hand controls.
