Connor McDavid scored at 8:18 of overtime to give Canada a 3-2 victory over the United States at the 4 Nations Face-Off in Boston. Nathan MacKinnon and Sam Bennett also scored for Canada while Jordan Binnington made 25 saves in regulation and six more in the extra period. The rivalry had added intensity with cross-border animosity following President Donald Trump’s tariff threats and talk of making Canada the 51st U.S. state.

Gasoline and diesel prices both went down overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices decreased by 0.8 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 164.1 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices dropped by 1.0 cent per litre, putting the minimum pump price for diesel at 192.8 cents per litre locally.
Premier Tim Houston says his government will table legislation to reduce interprovincial trade barriers.
Houston made the announcement during a surprise appearance at an Ontario provincial election campaign event near Toronto.
He says the new bill will allow Canadian goods and services to be sold in Nova Scotia without further testing or red tape if they come from any province or territory that passes similar legislation.
Houston will soon head to a meeting of U-S governors in Washington, D-C, where he will lobby against U-S President Donald Trump’s threatened 25 per cent tariffs.
Premier Tim Houston is defending a bill that would allow the government to fire the auditor general with the assent of two-thirds of the legislature and withhold reports.
Houston says the bill would “normalize” Nova Scotia’s legislation with other provinces, but the auditor general disagrees.
Kim Adair says the bill basically gives the province the power to fire her without cause and veto the release of any report it doesn’t like.
The government says the bill would allow reports to be withheld for reasons of public interest, public safety or legal privileges.
Rob Lantz will soon be the new premier of Prince Edward Island after Dennis King announced his resignation on Thursday, effective today. Lantz has been serving as Education Minister. The province’s Progressive Conservative Caucus unanimously endorsed Lantz to become interim party leader and premier. King resigned, saying the decision is in the best interest of his family, the government, the PEI PC Party, and the people of PEI. Premier Tim Houston issued a statement saying Premier King has been a passionate defender of Prince Edward Island, and an outstanding partner in Atlantic Canada. Houston says he’s proud of their work together on the Council of Atlantic Premiers, where he says that in 2023 they created the Atlantic Physician Registry.
The nomination deadline is quickly approaching for the Volunteer Awards 2025. The Volunteer awards are an opportunity to recognize volunteers residing in New Glasgow, and volunteering in Pictou County or New Glasgow.
