The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit has charged two people after executing arrest warrants at a home in Pictou as part of an ongoing investigation.
At the home, officers arrested a 33-year-old Eureka woman and 37-year-old River John man. The woman was charged with Failure to Comply with Order, and arrested on a New Glasgow Regional Police warrant. The man was charged with Driving While Prohibited and Failure to Comply with a Probation Order. After the arrests, a search of the home resulted in the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine, cash, a replica handgun, and drug paraphernalia. As a result, the woman faces additional drug and weapons related charges.
The Conservative Party’s newly released costed election platform forecasts 100-billion-dollar deficits over the next four years, along with billions of dollars in tax cuts and new revenues. At a campaign event in the Toronto-area yesterday, Leader Pierre Poilievre unveiled the document and added that he is inheriting debt from the previous Liberal government. Liberal Leader Mark Carney dismissed Poilievre’s platform, saying it was back-of-the-napkin math that would cut programs and spending that Canadians need. In Vancouver, N-D-P Leader Jagmeet Singh also attacked the Conservatives’ numbers, insisting they are not based in —quote— “any reality.”
Elections Canada says a record number of people voted in advanced polls over the Easter long weekend. It says 7.3 million people cast their ballots early between Friday and Monday, an increase of 25 per cent from the 5.8-million people who cast early ballots in the 2021 federal election.

The N-D-P and Liberals say they have heard from constituents who were offered primary care and removed from the wait-list, but who have been waiting months for an appointment at a clinic.
Nova Scotia Health says the province’s list of people in need of a family doctor or nurse practitioner has dropped to 93-thousand 700 as of April 1st – that’s down from 104-thousand 300 on February 15th.
