Increases overnight in gasoline and diesel prices in Nova Scotia. The price of regular gasoline went up by 5.6 cents per litre while the price of premium gasoline rose by 4.6 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 146.1 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices increased by 9.0 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 143.4 cents per litre locally.

On Wednesday night, a Pictou County District RCMP officer stopped an 18-year-old driver going 202 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 106 in Granton. The Mounties say the Trenton driver was issued a ticket for stunting, which carries a $2,422.50 fine, and a seven-day licence suspension.
The Nova Scotia N-D-P has written to Premier Tim Houston about its concerns over some women being improperly denied the gender-based violence benefit. M-L-A Susan Leblanc’s office says she recently assisted a woman who was wrongly denied the benefit, just weeks after another woman was turned down without a valid reason. The gender-based violence benefit provides monthly benefits to individuals and families fleeing gender-based violence to help them pay rent. Leblanc’s office says in both cases her office was able to help the women access the benefit, but only after months of waiting.
The Nova Scotia government is giving students from kindergarten to Grade 12 a ten-dollar voucher to be redeemed for local products. The province says the Nova Scotia Loyal vouchers can be redeemed at participating farmers markets. The vouchers will be distributed to students in all public schools. Another voucher will be given out in the fall.
