Gasoline and diesel prices both decreased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices decreased by 3.4 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 142.7 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices decreased by 4.1 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 138.4 cents per litre locally.

New Glasgow Regional Police have charged a man after failing to stop for police in New Glasgow. On Thursday, shortly before 11:00am, police tried to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck in the Elm Street area for having unregistered licence plates. However, the driver sped off and went through a stop sign, and for safety reasons police did not pursue. Minutes later, police spotted the vehicle again on the Granton-Abercrombie Road and the driver refused to stop. Officers were able to identify the driver, he was arrested about an hour later at a home in Westville. A 29-year old man from Pictou County has been charged with Flight from Police; Dangerous Driving; Driving without Insurance; and Driving while Revoked. He’s facing a date in Pictou Provincial Court on August 25th.
Last Sunday morning, RCMP responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle that had been parked at a business on Main St. In Bible Hill. Through the investigation, officers found that five other vehicles appeared to have also been damaged and had items taken. The vehicles were parked overnight at several businesses in the area.
Later in the day, based on information collected through the investigation, police searched a home in Truro and located and seized multiple items believed to be connected to thefts in Bible Hill and Truro, as well as an unsecured firearm and ammunition. Police arrested a Truro man who is now facing charges of Mischief, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Theft from Vehicle.
Nova Scotia is launching a public survey to seek input on expanding the sale of alcohol to retail locations such as corner stores.
The survey of 15-hundred Nova Scotians over the age of 19 will also seek input from retailers, municipal governments and health and safety organizations.
The survey will run until June 30th.
Alcohol is currently sold at over 300 retail locations in the province including Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation stores, private wine and specialty stores, on-site stores at breweries and wineries and farmers’ markets.
Nova Scotia is sending a fire crew to help with out-of-control wildfires in Saskatchewan. Twenty firefighters and a representative from the Department of Natural Resources left from Halifax Thursday. The department says current fire conditions in Nova Scotia allow the province’s wildfire resources to be shared. Last year, fire crews and resources were deployed six times to help with wildfires across Canada
