Gasoline and diesel prices both decreased overnight in Nova Scotia. The price of regular gasoline decreased by 3.5 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at 139.3 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices decreased by 1.7 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 136.7 cents per litre locally.
The director of Halifax Search and Rescue says it’s disheartening for his group to have to deal with scams, as it may discourage the public from donating to the group’s legitimate fundraising efforts. Paul Service says a GoFundMe campaign tried to raise 100-thousand-dollars to fund a drone search for two children missing since early last month from their home in Lansdowne Station. Service says a GoFundMe representative reached out to him to say it was taking down the site and investigating after the campaign was reported in the media.. Halifax Search and Rescue has carried out a number of searches for the two children who disappeared on May 2nd, and doesn’t normally request donations through GoFundMe.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a new parliamentary secretary team. That includes naming Cape Breton -Canso – Antigonish MP Jaime Battiste as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations. Parliamentary Secretaries support their respective Cabinet Ministers and Secretaries of State.
Industry Minister Melanie Joly says Canada won’t negotiate in public around U-S tariffs.
Joly emerged from her meetings Thursday with steel industry C-E-Os without any concrete retaliatory action to announce.
U-S President Donald Trump doubled his steel and aluminum tariffs this week to 50 per cent.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says Prime Minister Mark Carney is in “deep discussions” on trade with Trump.
But Ford and the steel industry are calling for swift retaliation against the heightened import duties.
Premier Tim Houston is pitching an ambitious wind energy project in response to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s bid to make Canada an “energy superpower.” Houston released a video earlier this week in which he says he’s hoping Carney’s Liberal government will supply the federal money needed for a new megaproject he’s calling “Wind West.” He says Nova Scotia is “on the edge of a clean energy breakthrough” and he plans to support the building of enough offshore wind turbines to supply 27 per cent of Canada’s total demand for electricity.
