There is a Special Weather Statement that has been issued for our area and most of Mainland Nova Scotia, warning of heavy rains continuing through the day today. Environment Canada says there are potential rainfall rates in excess of 25 mm per hour in some areas. Rain with embedded thunderstorms will have the potential to produce high rainfall totals, especially this morning. The forecast is calling for 10 mm to upwards of 30 mm in the heaviest showers in our area..

Nova Scotia Health says it has confirmed a case of measles in Pictou County — and says there are others in the area who are also ill with measles-like symptoms. The agency says it is working to determine the source of infection. Public health officials are directly notifying people who are known to have had close contact with the case. Possible exposure sites include:
Aberdeen Hospital Emergency Department (835 E River Rd., New Glasgow) Saturday, July 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Emergency Department (25 Bay St., Antigonish) Saturday, July 5 from 10:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
People who were exposed could expect to develop signs and symptoms of measles as early as 7 days and up to 21 days later.
U-S President Donald Trump fired off letters to governments around the world on Monday threatening tariffs unless deals are struck.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt (LEV’-itt) says Trump signed an order delaying his threatened tariffs from Wednesday until August 1st.
Canada is not targeted by the global tariffs and the two countries are working to come to a deal by July 21st.
Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office confirmed they are working toward that deadline.
Thousands of people paid 50 dollars to secure season tickets for a Halifax C-F-L team that never materialized. About six-thousand people paid a 50-dollar deposit for season tickets for the proposed Atlantic Schooners C-F-L franchise during a 2018 ticket drive. The team disappeared from public conversation when the COVID-19 pandemic began. The two companies affiliated with the franchise had their registrations revoked on the Registry of Joint Stock Companies.
The free New Glasgow 150 Music Shapes New Glasgow Summer Concert Series begins tonight. It’s live music every Tuesday evening this summer with a 6:30pm start. It kicks off tonight with Jud Gunning and Pat Walsh at New Glasgow Marina. If there’s inclement weather, the concert will be held at Glasgow Square Theatre. If you’re driving to the concert, you should park at the Glasgow Square Theatre parking lot or the New Glasgow Farmers Market parking lot.
