An update from Nova Scotia Health in the investigation of a case of Measles in Pictou County. Health officials say there has been a change in the timeframe for a public exposure site — St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Emergency Department. The time of the potential exposure at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Emergency Department in Antigonish is Saturday, July 5th from 10:45am to 2:15pm. The other potential public exposure site is Aberdeen Hospital Emergency Department in New Glasgow on Saturday, July 5th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
Nova Scotia Health Public Health is investigating a lab confirmed case of measles in Pictou County with additional contacts who are also ill with measles-like symptoms. Public Health is working quickly to determine the source of infection. It is believed that the case is related to travel within Canada, to a region with known measles.
The Mounties are investigating a report of several Molotov cocktails being thrown at a home in Antigonish. Investigators say the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning on Martin Street. Two people wearing black hoodies were seen leaving the area in a dark G-M-C vehicle. Later, at approximately 4:15 a.m., police responded to a report of fireworks being shot at a residence on Xavier Drive — and investigators say they believe the two incidents are related.
Nova Scotia health officials say they are making progress recruiting health professionals through an emphasis on collaborative care.
Dr. Aaron Smith, provincial medical executive director with the province’s health authority, told a legislature committee yesterday that clinics with multidisciplinary teams attract doctors.
Smith says in the past year all of the 89 primary care physicians who came to work in the province were recruited into clinics featuring other health professionals.
The legislature committee was told there are currently 118 so-called health homes or collaborative-care clinics where health teams provide a range of care.
The Town of Trenton is conducting a public feedback survey for urban deer management. It’s aimed at determining how residents feel about the urban deer population, the impact it has on their daily lives and how to move forward. You can find the survey on the Town’s website. The online survey will be open until Sunday, August 31st.
U-S President Donald Trump announced he’ll impose a 50 per cent tariff on copper imports but isn’t saying yet when it will take effect. It’s a sign that Trump plans to go ahead with a list of sectoral tariffs beyond his current import taxes on steel, aluminum and autos. Devastating U-S duties against countries around the world were set to come into force today before Trump pushed back the deadline to August 1st. While Trump delayed his deadline for trade deals with other countries, Canada’s July 21st deadline remains in place.
