Gas prices went up in Nova Scotia overnight, while diesel prices decreased. Gas prices rose by 2.8 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self serve gas at $1.46 per litre locally. Diesel prices decreased by 2.7 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for diesel at $1.54 per litre for the local area.
It is cheaper to travel on the ferries between Nova Scotia and PEI today, and on the Confederation Bridge. Today is the day the reduced ferry fares and bridge tolls announced on Monday by Prime Minister Mark Carney go into effect. The fares for ferry service between Caribou and Wood Islands have now been reduced by 50-percent.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling the 35 per cent tariffs the United States has placed on Canada “disappointing.” The punitive levies came into effect at 12:01 a-m this morning, imposed after U-S President Donald Trump accused Canada of failing to co-operate in curbing fentanyl imports. Carney’s statement came shortly after, and he noted that Canada accounts for only one per cent of American fentanyl imports and that the country has been working to reduce these volumes.
The Province is looking for companies to build and operate two new long-term care homes. The government opened its request for proposals for the planned homes Thursday. The homes would be built in Pictou and Kings counties with the goal of opening them in 2028. The government has more than doubled the size of the home planned for Pictou County to 96 beds while the Kings County home will have 144 single rooms.
