Gas prices rose slightly overnight in Nova Scotia. The price of regular gasoline increased by 0.9 of a cent per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at $1.46 per litre. There’s no change in diesel prices, leaving the minimum pump price for diesel at $1.46 per litre.
New Glasgow Regional Police have laid an impaired driving charge after a collision on East River Road. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Police responded to a collision in which a half-ton pickup truck struck a set of traffic lights on East River Road. Police say that minutes earlier, the same vehicle had struck a power pole at the intersection of Temperance Street and East River Road. The driver had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Aberdeen Hospital by EHS. A 27-year old Pictou County man has been charged with Impaired Driving and released on an undertaking with a court appearance set for October 27th in Pictou.
Officials say the Long Lake wildfire in Annapolis Valley continues to burn out of control, but it had not grown on Thursday — remaining an estimated 3,210 hectares, or roughly 32 square kilometres. There is concern though that strong winds associated with Hurricane Erin could cause the fire to spread over the next couple days.
Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office says a phone conversation with U-S President Donald Trump on Thursday was “productive and wide-ranging.”
In a statement, the P-M-O says the leaders discussed current trade challenges, opportunities and shared priorities in a new economic and security relationship.
Support for long-term peace and security in Ukraine and Europe was also talked about.
