Gasoline and diesel prices both rose in Nova Scotia overnight. The price of regular gasoline rose by 2.3 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at $1.49 in the local area. Diesel prices went up by 3.5 cents per litre overnight, leaving the minimum pump price for diesel at $1.50 locally.

Provincial officials in Nova Scotia say the Long Lake wildfire in the Annapolis Valley has destroyed 20 homes. The lost homes were on West Dalhousie, Morse and Thorne roads, though not all of the buildings are primary residences. Another 11 outbuildings were destroyed or damaged by the blaze, which is still considered out of control. Premier Tim Houston says the road to recovery will be long.
Transportation ministers from Atlantic Canada are asking the federal government to increase spending on infrastructure to help improve trade and the economy. Nova Scotia Public works Minister Fred Tilley met with his Atlantic counterparts this week. They say the Atlantic provinces face a significant shortfall when it comes to funding for highways, roads and bridges. They say transportation systems are under strain from several factors, including climate change, aging infrastructure and increasing road use. The Ministers add that Atlantic Canada plays an important role in global trade with exports from the region reaching 40.3 billion dollars last year.
On Thursday, the Town of New Glasgow hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the Viola’s Way Placemaking Project. Located adjacent to the former Roseland Theatre, the initiative will create a welcoming, inclusive, pedestrian-only space for reflection, celebration, education, and reconciliation, honouring the legacy of African Nova Scotian changemakers like Viola Desmond.
