In accordance with information protocol regarding the release of high-risk offenders, New Glasgow Regional Police are advising the public that a High-Risk Sex Offender is residing in the Marsh Street area of New Glasgow. 57-year old George Durling is a federal offender and has been released after serving a two-year sentence for convictions of Distribution of Child Pornography; Print/Publish Child Pornography; and Harassing Communication and Indecent Communication. Police say Durling was known to text and call random phone numbers with sexually explicit content. The offences occurred in the Truro and Maitland area.
George Durling is on conditions to restrict him from being around children under 16 years of age. New Glasgow Regional Police say they will continue to monitor the situation and will be completing regular compliance checks.
RCMP Nova Scotia Traffic Services stopped five stunt-speed drivers in early September. Two of those incidents were in Pictou County. The RCMP says that on Sunday in Marshy Hope, an 18-year old driver was caught going 155 km/h in a posted 80 km/h construction zone. Also on Sunday, in Broadway, a 21-year-old driver was clocked going 167 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone
Dalhousie University says no future conciliation dates have been scheduled in its contract dispute with the school’s faculty association.
Conciliation talks ended late Tuesday without a deal.
The university has offered two per cent increases for each year of a three-year contract.
The faculty association proposed increases of 3.75 per cent, 4.75 per cent and 5.75 per cent over three years.
Nova Scotia is expanding R-S-V respiratory virus protection for infants and older residents. Infants under eight months and adults 75-years and older will have access to free protection against R-S-V and can now start booking vaccinations through pharmacies and public health. The first appointments will happen on Monday, with primary care providers offering the vaccine in November. The program for infants under eight months will be offered every year during the R-S-V season, which typically begins in late fall and lasts until spring.
