Canada’s only Major League Baseball team will play for a World Series title. The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 4-3 last night to take the American League Championship Series four games to three. Toronto hosts the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
Representatives from New Glasgow Regional Police attended the 43rd annual Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Memorial Service in Halifax.
The service honours peace officers based in Nova Scotia who died in the line of duty.
First responders, peace officers, civilian employees, military members and volunteers marched from Police Headquarters to Grand Parade prior to the service.
Participants from across Nova Scotia then assembled at the Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Monument for a brief ceremony where dignitaries spoke and laid wreaths along with peace officers and family members in memory of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
The Province has awarded a two-million-dollar home care contract to a consulting firm without holding a competitive public bidding process. Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Barbara Adams says the untendered contract is for Davis Pier to determine areas of the province’s home care network that need improvement. Adams said last week the province didn’t issue a call for bids on the contract because it wanted to move quickly on the file, adding the company chosen is “very familiar” with home care in Nova Scotia. The provincial government has been criticized in previous auditor general reports for spending taxpayer money without going through a competitive bid process.

Amazon said the outage was resolved as of last night.
But the all-day disruption and the exasperation it caused served as the latest reminder that 21st century society is increasingly dependent on just a handful of companies for much of its internet technology.
