There was no change in gas prices overnight in Nova Scotia, but diesel prices did increase by 1.3 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline remains $1.37 per litre in the local area. The minimum pump price for diesel is $1.57 per litre locally.

The Antigonish County Street Crime Enforcement Unit has arrested a 46-year old Pictou County man, Jeremy Nickerson, who was wanted on a province-wide warrant. Nickerson was wanted for multiple offences, including weapons offences, assault, threats, and failure to comply with court conditions. After the arrest, he is now facing an additional charge of Resist Arrest. Staff Sergeant Kim Hillier of Antigonish RCMP says that the arrest took place after significant investigation, but it would not have been possible without support from the public.
Pictou County District RCMP launched a search Thursday of the area of Maclellan’s Brook Rd. and Brookville Rd. in McLellan’s Brook, Pictou County, after two men fled during a traffic stop. RCMP dog services was brought in to assist with the search. A short time later, police located and arrested the two men — one was located in a wooded area around McLellan’s Brook and the other was arrested during a traffic stop on Hwy. 104 near Stewiacke.
New Glasgow Regional Police say they commend the Federal Government for introducing the Bail and Sentencing Reform Act — a set of amendments to the Criminal Code. New Glasgow Regional Police say the proposed reforms have been designed to make bail stricter for repeat and violent offenders, strengthen sentencing provisions, and introduce new aggravating factors to protect victims and first responders. The Department says the amendments represent a meaningful step toward restoring accountability, deterrence, and fairness within the system. The municipal police force says it’s particularly encouraged by measures that require courts and police to more closely scrutinize release decisions in cases involving violent or repeat offenders; and recognize crimes against first responders as aggravating factors in sentencing.
Donald Trump is pulling the plug on trade negotiations with Canada.
The U-S president is announcing on social media, blaming the decision on Canada’s — quote — “egregious behaviour.”
Trump is taking offence to a new 75-million-dollar ad campaign — paid for by the Ontario government — that is airing across multiple American television stations.
It uses audio and video from 1987, featuring former president Ronald Reagan speaking against the use of tariffs.
