There is a Rainfall Warning in effect for Pictou County, with heavy rain expected at times today and tonight, ending Tuesday morning. Environment Canada says upwards of 40 to 60mm in rain is possible, some areas could see as much as 100mm.
The Nova Scotia Energy Board says the Interrupter Clause was invoked on Saturday in an increase of diesel prices in Nova Scotia. There was an increase of 8.6 cents per litre in the price of diesel leaving the minimum pump price for diesel at $1.65 per litre in the local area. There was no change Saturday in gas prices. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline remains $1.37 per litre locally.
New Glasgow Regional Police have charged a Pictou County man with impaired driving following a traffic stop. Shortly before 3:30am on October 11th, officers on routine patrol spotted a pickup truck being driven erratically on East River Road in New Glasgow. Police initiated a traffic stop, and following an investigation, the 22-year-old driver from Pictou County was arrested and charged with impaired driving. He is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on December 8th.
The RCMP says that a 26-year-old man who was reported missing from Pictou County has been located safe. The RCMP thanks the public for assisting through social media shares and offering tips.
A travel warning has been issued for Jamaica as a Category 4 hurricane approaches the country.
Hurricane Melissa is expected to move near or over Jamaica early Tuesday then cross Cuba into the southeastern Bahamas through Wednesday.
The storm damaged nearly 200 homes in the Dominican Republic and knocked out water supply systems, affecting more than half a million customers.
The Bahamas Department of Meteorology says Melissa could bring tropical storm or hurricane conditions to islands in the southeastern and central Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands by early next week.
The 2025 Nova Scotia Music and Industry Awards were handed out yesterday morning, awarding over 20 local artists and musicians. Big winners included Mo Kenney, who took home Songwriter of the Year and Music Video of the Year, as well as Terra Spencer, who won Entertainer of the Year and Folk/Roots Recording of the Year. Artist KAYO also snagged two awards, winning D-J of the Year and Hip Hop/Rap Recording of the Year. The awards were held in Yarmouth.
