The Special Weather Statement from Environment Canada remains in effect for most of Nova Scotia as we’ll see upwards of 40mm of rain today and wind gusts to 70kh.
Gasoline and diesel prices both went up overnight in Nova Scotia. The price of regular gasoline went up by 4.5 cents per litre, leaving the minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline at $1.41 per litre in the local area. Diesel prices rose by 1.3 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price for self-serve diesel at $1.67 per litre locally.
Early Thursday night, New Glasgow Regional Police reported that one person was in custody and police were continuing to investigate after an incident Thursday afternoon. Shortly after 3:30pm, New Glasgow Regional Police advised that there was a heavy police presence in the area of the 400 block on Pleasant Street in New Glasgow as a result of an ongoing police investigation. Police said though that there was no threat to public safety. No further details are available.
Premier Tim Houston is heading to Texas and Alberta to talk about energy.
Houston, who recently appointed himself as energy minister, says he’s travelling to Houston and Calgary next week.
It’s part of his bid to transform the Maritime province into what he calls an “energy powerhouse.”
The premier says he plans to meet with energy experts to explore clean energy solutions that could help meet the province’s future energy needs.
The premier says this year’s Christmas tree for Boston will come from Lunenburg County.
Tim Houston says the tree is a white spruce.
The tradition of Nova Scotia sending a Christmas tree to Boston goes back to 1917 when the city of Boston helped out after the Halifax explosion.
