There is a Snow Squall Watch in effect for Pictou and Antigonish Counties. Snow squalls are expected through the morning, and at times visibility will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, as those winds will be gusting northwesterly 70 to 90 km/h. Environment Canada says the snow squalls should end near noon or early this afternoon.
Northumberland Ferries has had to cancel all sailings for the day today between Caribou and Wood Islands, PEI because of the high winds in the Strait. It had also been forced to cancel its final two sailings of the day on Thursday.
New Glasgow Regional Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing person. 37-year-old John Edward Lennerton from Pictou County was last seen on Tuesday, November 25 at approximately 6:30am in the area of High Street in New Glasgow. He left in a grey 2021 Chevrolet Silverado Truck with Nova Scotia licence plate HND 568. There is no information to suggest that he has met with foul play, however, New Glasgow Regional Police are concerned for his well-being and want to ensure he is safe. Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of John Edward Lennerton to call New Glasgow Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
46-year old Jason Sterling Carpenter of MacLellans Brook, who was wanted on a province-wide warrant, has been arrested. The Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of Pictou County District RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Service, New Glasgow Regional Police and Stellarton Police Service, made the arrest in New Glasgow.
Carpenter is facing multiple charges stemming from an investigation into impaired driving that occurred on November 9. The charges include Assaulting Peace Officer with Weapon (two counts); Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm; Unauthorized Possession of Firearm; and Failure to Comply with Release Order. The RCMP thanks members of the public for its support in locating Carpenter.
The Pictou County Interagency on Family Violence will be a hosting the 2nd annual Brenda’s Walk for Change today at 3:00 pm in the Laurie Peace Park on Dalhousie Street, New Glasgow.
Brenda’s Walk is named in memory of Brenda Tatlock who was murdered on October 18th, 2024 by her spouse in Enfield.
The walk is to bring awareness to Intimate Partner Violence.
There will be a gathering with guest speakers in Laurie Park at 3 PM, followed by a walk throughout downtown New Glasgow.
The price of regular gasoline went down by 3.0 cents per litre overnight in Nova Scotia, while the price of premium gasoline dropped by 2.0 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now $1.37 per litre in the local area. There was no change in diesel prices, leaving the minimum pump price for diesel at $1.67 per litre locally.
