R-C-M-P are asking for the public’s help as they search for the driver and passengers of a car that hit a house in Pictou. Police say just before 11 p-m on Sunday, officers received a report of a vehicle that left the road and hit a house near the intersection of West River Road and High Street. Investigators believe two or three people left the car, removed the car’s plate, and fled on foot before police arrived. The vehicle is a blue Mitsubishi RVR. No one inside the home was injured.
Northumberland Ferries’ sailing season will end today. The company says the 2025 season will finish earlier than planned due to ice and the weather anticipated this week. The final crossing of the season will be at 10:00 a.m. today from the PEI side.
Nova Scotia Power is holding public meetings to answer ratepayers’ questions about how the company has estimated power bills since a cybersecurity breach shut down automated meter readings in the spring. Nova Scotia Power has faced intense criticism from customers who say their estimated bills have been unfairly inflated. One of those sessions is going to be held in Truro on Thursday from 12pm to 4pm at Colchester Branch 26 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem says he expects food inflation to ease in the coming months. Statistics Canada reported this week that the annual rise of grocery prices hit a nearly two-year high of 4.7 per cent last month. It was largely thanks to rising prices for berries, beef and coffee. Macklem expects those pressures to unwind over the coming months but also warns high beef prices tied to farmers keeping smaller herds will take longer to settle.
