There’s a Yellow Level Snow Squall Watch issued by Environment Canada for Pictou and Antigonish Counties. Snow squalls are expected to develop through today and tonight with 15cm in snow possible in areas. Combined with northerly winds gusting to 50kh, visibility will be significantly reduced in the heavy and blowing snow at times.
Pictou County District RCMP have charged a woman and a man with drug trafficking after seizing cocaine, methamphetamine and presumed fentanyl. Just after midnight on the morning of December 15th, police tried to conduct a traffic stop on Little Harbour Road in Kings Head, but the driver sped off. Police did not pursue for safety reasons, but found the vehicle in the ditch on Little Harbour Road just minutes later. The two people were arrested and a search of the vehicle resulted in police seizing a quantity of cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, prescription pills, presumed fentanyl and fentanyl test strips. The 40-year old woman and 39-year old man, both from Woodburn, are each facing charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Flight from Police. They are being held in custody and face a court appearance in Pictou Provincial Court on January 19th
At some point next year, Nova Scotians will no longer be eligible to receive up to 15-thousand dollars in federal funding to switch from oil to a heat pump. Natural Resources Canada says while the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program is scheduled to end in 2027 in other parts of Canada, it will wrap up next year in Nova Scotia. The department says that due to high demand for the program, funding in Nova Scotia for the program will be used up in 2026. According to Natural Resources Canada, more than 9-thousand homes received heat pump rebates in Nova Scotia in the last three years.
