New Glasgow Regional Police continue to ask for the public’s help in their investigation of a vehicle theft at a convenience store parking lot at 300 East River Road in New Glasgow. Police received a report of the theft on Thursday, December 18th between 2:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Police have released photos of the suspect and are looking for help in identifying the person.
Five Nova Scotians who have made significant contributions in a broad range of fields – including public and community service, philanthropy, music, education, business and health – have been appointed to the Order of Nova Scotia.
The 2025 recipients are:
– Former Premier, municipal politician and lawyer Darrell Dexter.
– philanthropist and entrepreneur John George (Jack) Flemming of Halifax
– business and community leader Rankin MacSween of Cape Breton
– Musician and philanthropist Joel Plaskett
– educator, human rights and community advocate Carolyn Thomas of East Preston
An investiture ceremony will be held at Government House in Halifax in the spring.
Data from the Nova Scotia Registry of Vital Statistics has revealed the top baby names in the province in 2025, and Charlotte proved to be the most popular baby name in Nova Scotia this year. Other names in the top 10 are Henry, William, Noah, Jack, Violet, Oliver, Theodore, Wesley and Lainey. Usually, more than half the names in the annual top 20 appear year to year, along with additions, such as Bennett and Maeve in 2025. As of yesterday, there were 7,184 registered births this year in Nova Scotia, up from 7,154 in 2024
There’s a New Year’s Eve Skating Party tonight at Hector Arena in Pictou to help bring in 2026. The skate gets underway at 6:00pm and then there will be fireworks at 8:00pm.
