The governor of Oregon and the mayor of Portland are calling for federal immigration agents in the city to halt operations, after two people were shot in what the Department of Homeland Security says was a “targeted stop.”

Federal officials claim the driver tried to run down the agents, essentially turning the vehicle into a weapon.

It is a similar claim to one related to a fatal shooting in Minnesota on Wednesday, involving a 37-year-old mother from Minneapolis.

Protests are being organized across the U-S to mark Renee Good’s killing.

The federal government says 25 banned firearms were collected and destroyed during a six-week trial run of its buyback program in Nova Scotia.

Public Safety Canada says the pilot project in Cape Breton showed that clearer and more timely instructions are required to ensure the participation of firearm owners.

Since May 2020, Ottawa has outlawed about 25-hundred types of guns, including the A-R-15, on the basis they belong only on the battlefield.

Ottawa has budgeted more than 700 million dollars for the buyback.

The Nova Scotia government has announced a plan it says will improve equity and safety for the L-G-B-T-Q-plus community.  It includes a commitment to boost funding for transgender and non-binary people seeking gender-affirming care.  As well, the government is promising to provide training for police, corrections and victim services staff aimed at reducing bias and improving the safety.  The plan notes that housing instability and discrimination disproportionately affect trans and gender-diverse people, as well as racialized Nova Scotians.
