The Municipality of Shelburne says it will review its dog control bylaw after the death of a 13-year-old boy attacked by three dogs. Drew Nickerson was attacked by a Rottweiler and two Cane Corsos as he rode his bicycle in the community of Welshtown on January 3rd. He died two days later in a Halifax hospital. The Municipality of Shelburne says it recognizes Nickerson’s death has raised concerns among residents. In response, the municipality says it will launch a review of its dog control bylaw to ensure it’s up to “modern standards” for public safety and animal control.
The MV Confederation, one of the vessels operated by Northumberland Ferries between Caribou and PEI, is headed St. John’s Newfoundland. It’s left Charlottetown, and after a stop in Georgetown, PEI, will go to St. John’s, when weather allows, where it will undergo winter maintenance. It tried to make the trek last week but was damaged by ice and had to return to port in Charlottetown where it leaked about 2,000 litres of coolant into the Charlottetown Harbour.

Nova Scotia’s lobster sector is feeling the pinch from Chinese tariffs this year, but officials say exporters are starting to crack other international markets. The Lobster Council of Canada says new data shows exports outside the U-S and China, the sector’s two biggest markets, increased about 43 per cent in October. That’s helping to cushion the blow from the 25 per cent tariff China has placed on Canada’s lobster exports. Some exporters say sales to China are off about 30 per cent this year.
