The stepfather of two long-missing children in Pictou County has been charged with sexually assaulting an adult. The RCMP confirms that 34-year-old Daniel Martell of Lansdowne was arrested this week by Pictou County District R-C-M-P officers. Martell’s common-law partner called 9-1-1 on May 2nd to report two of her children had wandered away from their rural home. Despite extensive searches, there have been few clues to indicate what happened to five-year-old Jack Sullivan and his six-year-old sister Lilly. The RCMP said earlier this month that none of the children’s family members were suspects in the disappearance.

A child-care advocacy group in Nova Scotia is raising concerns about what it calls inadequate support for the sector.
Child Care Now Nova Scotia is calling for a universal, publicly funded and publicly managed non-profit child care system.
The group says that while federal and provincial investments since 2021 have reduced fees, more needs to be done to ensure children have stable access to high-quality daycare services.
The organization is calling on the province to protect existing daycare spaces and move toward the public management of child-care services to ensure they can survive long-term.
