A multi-agency search is underway after two men failed to return from an ice-fishing trip in Belleisle, Annapolis County.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police say the 73 and 77-year-old men were reported missing late Tuesday night after heading out near Little Brook Lane.
Air searches were carried out overnight by RCMP drone operators and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, while local fire services searched the water.
Search crews including ground search and rescue teams and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association are also assisting.
Police say one of the men was found deceased Wednesday afternoon, and the search continues for the second. Residents are being asked to avoid the area and stay off the ice.
The United Nations Security Council has passed a resolution condemning Iran’s recent strikes on Persian Gulf states, as fighting in the Middle East continues to escalate.
A separate proposal from Russia calling for an immediate halt to military action failed to pass.
The conflict is also disrupting global oil supplies, with Iran threatening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. In response, the International Energy Agency says it will release record emergency oil reserves to stabilize markets.
Meanwhile, Mark Carney spoke with G7 leaders, including Donald Trump, about the escalating conflict. Officials say more than 1,800 people have been killed across Iran, Lebanon and Israel.
Students and staff at Nova Scotia Community College held rallies across the province Wednesday, calling on the government to reverse a $9.4-million cut to the school’s operating grant.
Union representatives say the reduction could mean up to 60 job losses a year for the next four years, roughly 230 positions in total.
Students say they’re worried the cuts could shorten programs and impact learning.
The provincial Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration says funding still includes nearly $200 million for NSCC operations and that schools have been asked to find administrative savings rather than cut training programs.
