The stepfather of two missing children has had his unrelated assault case court date changed. Daniel Martell is charged with assault, sexual assault and unlawful confinement involving an adult victim who cannot be identified. A Crown attorney says the delay was needed to allow for additional disclosure. He is the stepfather of four-year-old Jack Sullivan and his six-year-old sister Lilly, who were reported missing from their home in Lansdowne Station in May 2025.

New Glasgow Police issued a ticket Sunday afternoon for stunting. At about 2:00 p.m., an officer on East River Road clocked a vehicle, which had no plate attached, travelling 103 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and a 17-year-old driver from Pictou County was charged and received a ticket for stunting – which is an immediate seven-day license suspension and the vehicle was seized.
Anyone driving a vehicle 50 km/h or more over a speed limit can be charged with stunting. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, a stunting charge results in a more than $2,400 fine for the first offence, six points on their license and a seven-day roadside license suspension.
The federal government is rolling out 1.5-billion-dollars in tariff relief.
That includes a new 1-billion-dollar program under the Business Development Bank of Canada to bolster the manufacturing sector, and a 500-million-dollar top-up to the regional tariff response fund. The new program is meant to shore up factories hit by U-S tariffs affecting exports of products containing steel, aluminum and copper.
It all comes in response to the United States widening its tariff criteria last month.
The premier is in Texas once again.
Tim Houston is in Houston for an offshore technology conference where he is set to participate in a panel about investment in Atlantic Canada’s oil and gas sector.
The premier was also in Texas in late March for another energy conference, and in late February he travelled to Toronto for a conference on critical minerals and mining.
The opposition N-D-P have criticized the premier’s frequent trips, while Houston, who also serves as energy minister, says such travel is necessary to promote Nova Scotia’s natural resources.
